The Imitators

Seattle Brigade

March 17-24, 2008
Summarized From The Daily Journal Of Cadet Aeran Oh

The Imitators were Cadets Emmanuel Masango, Michael Pyer, Sergio & Stephanie Garcia, Aeran Oh, Sarah Smuda, Ray Dihle and Heather Paap and Officers Major Beth and Captain Michael Paugh.

Upon our arrival at the Seattle White Center, our brigade, The Imitators were met by Major Kathy and Major Maynard Sergeant who took us on a tour of the facility.  We could sense their passion, love and joy at their many years of service there.

Beginning the next day, we began our assignments leading chapel and learning about the social service programs at the Seattle White Center.  We toured an emergency women’s shelter and the Catherine Booth House for women recovering from domestic violence.  We also toured The William Booth House is an emergency shelter, as well as, a transitional living facility.   One of the programs run out of it is an emergency transitional shelter for people being released out the hospital that have now where to go. The transitional living is a program that allows the men to get on their feet and is a two year maximum living situation.

At the Seattle White Center, we helped with the daily youth homework program. Each cadet had a rotating assignment between homework help, the reading room, computer lab, and the youth center. We enjoyed helping out with this task every afternoon we were there.

We also enjoyed a bit of Seattle sightseeing. We enjoyed visiting places like Pike Marketplace where we saw some “fish throwing” and saw lots of beautiful flowers. We were blessed this week by the many children and seniors that we were able to sit and talk with or just help out with homework and reading. We ended with a group prayer and the promise to keep praying for the Seattle White Center, the Sergeants and corps members.
