Poiema

Home Brigade

March 17-24, 2008
Written by:  Major Vickie Shiroma

The 2008 Spring Campaign Home Brigade chose the Greek word “Poiema” as its Brigade name.  It means workmanship.  It was very appropriate as they kept the home fire burning with the Spirit of the Lord.  The members were Cadets Kihyun Oh, Amy Park, Minhee Lee, Jennifer Pyer, Lisa Barnes and Jennifer Masango and Major Vickie Shiroma.

The cadets ministered at various nearby locations including Seal Beach and Santa Monica Corps.  Many of the meetings were conducted for senior citizens who graciously expressed their appreciation for the cadets’ ministry.  The Brigade provided Holy Week services, Easter parties and visitations.  The cadets did a wonderful job conducting the meetings and, especially, relating with the people.

The young generation was not forgotten.   A Saturday get-together provided fun and food for the children and their cadet parents.  The Easter egg hunt was definitely a highlight for the children.

The week concluded with conducting an Easter Sunday service for the residents of the Skyline Mobile Park for seniors.  One of the seniors sweetly shared how much she appreciated our willingness to provide the meeting as she was unable to attend her regular church due to physical limitations.  There were others throughout the week that expressed similar sentiments.  It made all the many days of planning, preparations and tiredness worth it all.   The officer and cadets were deeply blessed.
