Jerre and Mary Joy Stead School for Leadership Development

The purpose of the Jerre and Mary Joy Stead School for Leadership Development (SLD) is to provide continuing education opportunities for newly commissioned Officers. As part of their promotion to the rank of Captain, Lieutenants in their first five-years of officership are required to successfully complete five School for Leadership Development courses.  Courses are designed to fulfill current needs of officers to prepare them for effective and vibrant leadership in The Salvation Army.

Information on the SLD can be found on The Salvation Army intranet, The Landing, under Resources and Continuing Education.

Admissions Process

All applicants for the Jerre and Mary Joy Stead School for Leadership Development will apply for continuing education courses through TSAMM where they will receive approval from their command leadership. Examples of command leadership can include command head, divisional continuing education coordinator, or another assigned officer. Lieutenants will complete a required number of courses in fulfillment of their continuing education requirements to be promoted to captain. Other officers will have the ability to register and complete courses with permission from their command leadership.

For more information contact the Director of Continuing Education, Major Stacy Cross, or view/download the SLD section of the CFOT Catalog.
