Major Kyung-Ja
Kim was born in Seoul,
Korea. Her parents were soldiers at the Los Angeles Korean and
Tucson Korean Corps. She is the second of seven children. Four
of her siblings live in Tucson, Arizona, one in Korea, and a brother,
Major Peter Kim, who is an active officer at the Los Angeles Korean
Corps in California.
Kyung-Ja was active in many Salvation Army programs including YPL
and for 20 years she helped with the Christmas kettles at Christmastime
in Seoul.
She received her call to officership in 1971 when she was a Director
at a Salvation Army children’s home in Seoul. She answered
that call when she went to the Korea Territory’s Officer
Training College in September of 1979 at the age of 35.
One of the things that she fondly remembers from her training days
was when she preached to over 500 Junior High School students during
her Spring Campaign. She said that as a result, almost 30 students
came to the alter call and dedicated their lives to God.
Major Kim was commissioned with the God’s Soldiers Session
in June of 1981 in Korea. Since August 1994 she has worked in the
Family Care Center as the Christian Education Director/Officer
at the College for Officer Training at Crestmont.
Her hobbies include traveling and writing and her favorite Psalm
is 23:1-4. On March 1, 2010, Major Kyung-Ja Kim will have faithfully
served The Salvation Army 28 years, 8 months, and 11 days. She
looks forward to retiring in Tucson, Arizona where she will be
close to family and friends.
