The 2011 Educator of the Year program sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club provided an opportunity on November 9, 2011, for the College for Officer Training and the entire peninsula community to honor Major Brian Jones, one of our most capable faculty members. Training Principal Tim Foley, who was himself honored a year ago with this same tribute, introduced Brian as one of our most experienced teachers and one of our most genuine staff.

The College hosted members of Brian’s immediate family (Gwen, Melissa and Amelia) and his niece, Alicia Citti; in addition other members of the staff were there to support and honor Major Jones, including Majors Tim and Cindy Foley, Dr. Jim Hartman and Sheila Chatterjee.

Brian has taught at the college for a combined total of sixteen years. He completed his Masters in Divinity and doctoral degree in Ministry from Azusa Pacific University and his Masters degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is a versatile teacher qualified and able to teach a variety of Theology and Bible courses. For the last three years, Brian has also served as the College’s Director of Curriculum, the chief academic officer. His wife, Gwen is serving currently in the Personnel Department after many years of service as the Director of Family Care. Brian’s oldest daughter, Melissa Jones, a recent law school graduate, serves as the interim Director of the Academic Achievement Center. Amelia Jones will graduate this May from the University of Southern California where she is completing an MSW degree in Social Work. The College for Officer Training is an annual participant and supporter of this community tribute to effective teaching.
